Terms of Use
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and red capsule. DeckScreen is a product of red capsule.
By downloading, installing, or using the DeckScreen iPad app, the companion on the Steam Deck, or this website, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use them.
The iPad app is also licensed under Apple’s standard App Store terms. These terms sit alongside that license. They do not replace it. If the app is offered for purchase, Apple’s terms apply to the purchase as well.
2. What DeckScreen is
DeckScreen shows a Steam Deck’s picture on an iPad you connect with one USB‑C cable. One USB‑C cable carries the picture and the sound. Controls stay on the Steam Deck.
DeckScreen is not a capture card, a dock, or a second set of game controls. It is not made by Apple, and it is not made by Valve.
3. Devices
The iPad app is for USB‑C iPads on iPadOS 17 or later: iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad (10th generation).
The companion is for Steam Deck LCD and Steam Deck OLED on SteamOS. Gaming Mode and Desktop Mode both work. That is not a promise that every cable or game will work.
4. No account
There is no DeckScreen login. You are responsible for the Steam Deck and the iPad, including who can unlock them and who can see the iPad screen.
5. The companion
You install the companion by running the signed installer once in Desktop Mode. Match the key fingerprint shown in io.deckscreen.app before you run it. The installer copies DeckScreen into that user’s home and starts it for that user. It does not use sudo, and it does not change the SteamOS system partition. Developer Mode stays off.
The companion does not require a separate purchase from us.
6. Your screen
You are responsible for what is on the Steam Deck screen. Desktop Mode sends the whole screen. There is no privacy filter. Do not use DeckScreen to show a screen you are not allowed to show, or to capture material you have no right to display.
7. Purchases
The iPad app is $9.99, paid once. Apple charges your Apple ID. We do not receive your card number. Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store rules. Deleting the app does not by itself refund a purchase. Manage purchases in your Apple ID settings.
There is no subscription. The companion on the Steam Deck is free. If a paid plan is added later, these terms will be updated before it is offered.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use DeckScreen in violation of law
- Break, probe, or bypass the app or the companion except where the law allows
- Interfere with the check that connects the iPad app to the companion
- Claim that Apple or Valve made DeckScreen, or that DeckScreen made a game you are playing
- Use DeckScreen to harm someone else, or to show their screen without permission
9. Intellectual property
The iPad app, the companion, this website, the DeckScreen name, and our original design and software belong to red capsule or its licensors. These terms do not give you ownership of them. You may not copy or redistribute the app or the companion except as the App Store license and applicable law allow.
Games, audio, and other material on the Steam Deck stay with you and with the people who own them. DeckScreen does not claim them.
Steam and Steam Deck are trademarks of Valve Corporation. DeckScreen is not affiliated with Valve. iPad, Retina, Metal, and MetalFX are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. DeckScreen is not affiliated with Apple. Those names are used to say what DeckScreen works with.
10. Other people’s services
DeckScreen relies on your Steam Deck, Steam’s audio output, the USB‑C cable, and Apple’s iPad. This website loads fonts from Google. Those companies’ terms apply to their own services. We are not responsible for their outages or for changes they make.
11. This website
This website describes the product and holds these terms and the Privacy Policy. It does not sell the app. A purchase, if one is offered, happens through Apple.
12. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, DeckScreen is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant that every Steam Deck, iPad, cable, or game will work, that the picture will be uninterrupted, or that the sound will stay lined up with the picture.
13. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, red capsule and its directors, employees, and affiliates are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of DeckScreen or from your inability to use it. That includes what is shown on the iPad, and it includes Apple, Valve, and other third parties.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for claims about DeckScreen is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the iPad app through Apple in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty U.S. dollars, except where the law does not allow that limit. Nothing here limits liability the law says cannot be limited, including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, where such a limit is not allowed.
14. Your responsibility for claims
To the extent the law allows, you will cover red capsule against claims that come from your unlawful use of DeckScreen, from what you show with it, or from your breaking these terms.
15. Stopping
You may stop using DeckScreen at any time. Delete the iPad app, and remove the companion from the Steam Deck, when you want them gone. We may stop offering DeckScreen, or refuse further use if you break these terms or if the law requires it. Sections that should survive by their nature, including ownership, disclaimers, responsibility for claims, and limits on liability, survive.
16. Changes
We may update these terms. The new version will be posted at this address, with a new date. If a change is material, we will try to give a reasonable notice, for example on the website or in an app update. If you keep using DeckScreen after the change, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, stop using DeckScreen.
17. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that consumer-protection laws of your place of residence still apply where they cannot be waived.
Except where those laws say otherwise, courts in California hear disputes about these terms. Nothing here takes away a right to sue in your local courts where the law keeps that right.
18. Apple
If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and red capsule about DeckScreen, together with Apple’s App Store terms for the iPad app. Apple is not a party to these terms. Apple is not responsible for DeckScreen, for maintenance of it, or for claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this section and may enforce it.
